How to Remove Stamped.io Leftover Code from Your Shopify Theme

Stamped.io often lives inside a file that does not carry its name. In the stores we scan, Stamped's code most often sits in snippets/product-reviews-app__snippet.liquid, the snippet left over from Shopify's old Product Reviews app.

When Stamped is uninstalled, that snippet keeps its Stamped markup and the theme keeps reading stamped metafields that are now empty.

What Stamped.io leaves behind

Across roughly 170 Shopify stores scanned with Store Health, about 1 in 25 still had theme code reading Stamped data that no longer existed.

Theme files

  • snippets/product-reviews-app__snippet.liquid: The most common host for Stamped's review widget code.
  • snippets/structured-data.liquid: Review values added to product structured data.

Metafields the theme still reads

These keys are read by theme code, but no data exists for them once the app is gone.

  • stamped.reviews in the product reviews snippet
  • stamped.reviews_count, stamped.reviews_average in product cards
  • stamped.badge in product cards

Metafields the app stores

Data Stamped.io may keep in your store after uninstall. It is harmless once no theme code reads it.

  • shop: stamped.api_secret
  • product: stamped.reviews, stamped.badge
  • product: stamped.reviews_count, stamped.reviews_average
  • collection: stamped.reviews_count, stamped.reviews_average

How to remove Stamped.io code manually

Check first: Open snippets/product-reviews-app__snippet.liquid and look for stamped. If the whole file is Stamped markup and no other app uses it, you can remove its render lines and then the file.

  1. Duplicate your live theme. In Online Store > Themes, choose Duplicate on the live theme and do all of the work below on the copy.
  2. Turn off the app embed, if there is one. In the theme editor, open Theme settings > App embeds and switch off anything from Stamped.io. Remove any Stamped.io app blocks from your templates too.
  3. Search the code. Open Edit code and search for stamped, product-reviews-app. Write down every file that matches.
  4. Remove references before files. Delete the {% render %} and {% include %} lines that load Stamped.io snippets, and any code that reads the metafields listed above. Start with layout/theme.liquid, then templates, sections, and snippets.
  5. Delete the files. Once nothing renders them, delete the Stamped.io snippets, sections, and layouts. If you are unsure about a file, leave it for now. An unused file costs nothing.
  6. Test the duplicate. Preview a product page, a collection page, and the product structured data, on desktop and mobile. Check the browser console for errors.
  7. Publish and recheck. Publish the cleaned theme during a quiet hour and keep the old one as a backup until you are sure everything works.

Watch out: Some stores keep a shop metafield called stamped.api_secret. If you are not going to reinstall Stamped, delete it. A secret that no app uses should not stay in your store data.

Faster: let Store Health find it

Store Health scans your theme, scripts, and metafields in one read-only pass. It shows script tags and renders of missing snippets with their file and line number, and lists metafields your theme reads that hold no data. Nothing is changed in your store.

FAQ

Why is Stamped code inside a Shopify Product Reviews file?

Stamped can write its widget into the old Product Reviews snippets so existing review blocks in the theme keep working. That file stays after Stamped is uninstalled.

Can I delete product-reviews-app__snippet.liquid?

Only after you remove every render of it and confirm no other review app writes into it. Search the theme for product-reviews-app__snippet first.

What should I do with stamped.api_secret?

If you are done with Stamped, delete it from the shop metafields. Nothing on the storefront needs it once the app is gone.
