How to Remove Avada SEO Suite Leftover Code from Your Shopify Theme
Avada SEO Suite adds a main avada-seo snippet that renders a family of smaller snippets for meta tags, structured data, and social tags. Uninstalling the app often removes some of those child snippets but leaves the main one in place.
That leaves a theme that renders files which no longer exist. If the main snippet is rendered from your layout, that happens on every page, so it is worth cleaning up, especially if it outputs SEO tags your theme already provides.
What Avada SEO Suite leaves behind
Across roughly 170 Shopify stores scanned with Store Health, about 1 in 33 still had Avada SEO code rendering snippets that no longer exist.

How to remove Avada SEO Suite code manually
Check first: Find where snippets/avada-seo.liquid is rendered (search for avada-seo). Removing that one render line stops every child render at once.
- Duplicate your live theme. In Online Store > Themes, choose Duplicate on the live theme and do all of the work below on the copy.
- Turn off the app embed, if there is one. In the theme editor, open Theme settings > App embeds and switch off anything from Avada SEO Suite. Remove any Avada SEO Suite app blocks from your templates too.
- Search the code. Open Edit code and search for
avada-seo,avada. Write down every file that matches. - Remove references before files. Delete the
{% render %}and{% include %}lines that load Avada SEO Suite snippets, and any code that reads the metafields listed above. Start withlayout/theme.liquid, then templates, sections, and snippets. - Delete the files. Once nothing renders them, delete the Avada SEO Suite snippets, sections, and layouts. If you are unsure about a file, leave it for now. An unused file costs nothing.
- Test the duplicate. Preview the page source of the home page and a product page (title, meta description, and structured data), plus the search page, on desktop and mobile. Check the browser console for errors.
- Publish and recheck. Publish the cleaned theme during a quiet hour and keep the old one as a backup until you are sure everything works.
Watch out: Check your theme's own SEO output after cleanup. If you relied on Avada for meta tags or structured data, make sure the theme or another app now provides them.
Faster: let Store Health find it
Store Health scans your theme, scripts, and metafields in one read-only pass. It shows script tags and renders of missing snippets with their file and line number, and lists metafields your theme reads that hold no data. Nothing is changed in your store.
FAQ
Will removing Avada SEO code remove my meta descriptions?
No. Meta descriptions you set in Shopify admin are output by your theme. Only extra tags added by Avada's snippets go away.
What is templates/search.avada-seo.liquid?
An alternate search template the app added. Once nothing uses it, you can delete it.
Can leftover SEO snippets cause duplicate tags?
They can. If both the theme and a leftover snippet output structured data or social tags, pages may have duplicates. Check the page source after cleanup.
